The
Malawi Electoral Commission is informing the public that it has revised dates
for conducting voter registration in Chitipa district.
Mr Willie Kalonga, MEC Chief Elections Officer |
Registration
in the district will now take place in the sixth phase to run from 15 to 28
October, 2013. The Commission has made this decision following requests from
the district that registration should be conducted earlier than planned before
the rainy season. During the rainy season most of the areas might be difficult
to reach and this can affect registration.
The
registration exercise in Chitipa will be done alongside other areas to be
covered under phase six which are Lilongwe City (not rural), all constituencies in Dowa, Mchinji South
and Southwest constituencies and Dedza West, Central, Central East, Southwest and Northwest constituencies which were not covered in phase five.
The
Commission is also informing the public that it is currently reviewing
registration dates for Rumphi, Nkhata Bay and Likoma districts with the aim of conducting
registration earlier and will announce the dates in due course.
The
Commission has mobilized enough personnel, equipment and materials to deploy
extra 150 teams that will conduct voter registration in Chitipa.
